Your Privacy Rights & Data Control

Take control of your personal and public data

At PublicSeek, we believe you should have control over your information. This page explains your rights regarding the data we handle and the tools we provide to manage that data.

Important Distinction: We handle two types of data differently—your personal User Data (information you provide directly to us) and Public Data (publicly available information we compile from third-party sources). Each has different options for control.

User Data: Information You Provide to Us

User Data includes personal information you give us when you create an account, make a purchase, or interact with our site—such as your email address, payment information, search history, and communication records.

Your User Data Rights

Subject to applicable state privacy laws, you have the following rights regarding your User Data:

Right to Know

Request confirmation of what personal information we've collected about you and receive a copy of that data.

Right to Correct

Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete personal information in your account.

Right to Delete

Request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain legal exceptions.

Right to Opt Out

Opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for targeted advertising.

How to Exercise Your User Data Rights

  • Online: Log into your account dashboard to update or delete your information
  • Phone: Call 1 (587) 315-5037 (Monday-Friday, 9 AM - 5 PM Eastern)
  • Email: Send your request to privacy@publicseek.org

We'll verify your identity before processing requests and respond within 30 days.

Public Data: Background Report Information

Public Data is publicly available information we compile from government records, public databases, and other third-party sources. This data appears in background reports when someone searches for you by name on PublicSeek.org.

Note: Most state privacy laws do not apply to Public Data because it's sourced from public records. However, PublicSeek voluntarily provides a free tool to help you manage the visibility of your background report.

Suppress Your Background Report

We offer a free self-service tool that allows you to suppress your background report from appearing when someone searches your name on PublicSeek and our affiliated people search sites.

What Does Suppression Do?

  • Prevents your full background report from appearing in name-based searches
  • Free to use—no subscription required
  • Takes effect across PublicSeek and our sister people search sites

What Suppression Does NOT Do

  • Does not remove information from the original public record sources
  • Does not affect other people search websites or data brokers
  • May not prevent your name from appearing in phone, address, or email searches
  • Does not guarantee removal of all information due to data variations

Why We Need Additional Information

To suppress your background report, we need to verify that you're the person in the report. The most efficient way to do this is by matching information you provide (like phone numbers or email addresses) against what's in the report.

This verification information is used only to process your suppression request and is not added to our reports or made available on our website.

State-Specific Privacy Rights

If you're a resident of certain states, you may have additional privacy rights under state law:

California Residents

California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) provide enhanced privacy rights including the right to know, delete, correct, and opt out of sales.

Other States

Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, and other states have enacted similar privacy laws. Check if your state is covered by contacting us.

Protected Persons: Judges, law enforcement officers, and other legally protected individuals may have additional rights. Contact us for more information about specialized protections.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will deleting my User Data suppress my Public Data?

No. These are separate processes because the data types are different. Deleting your account removes your User Data (login info, search history, payment records). To suppress your background report, you must use our Suppression Tool separately.

How long does suppression take?

Once verified, suppression typically takes effect within a few business days. You'll receive confirmation when the process is complete.

What if I see information about me after suppression?

Due to variations in public records data, some information may still appear. If you see Public Data about you after suppressing your report, contact us at privacy@publicseek.org for additional assistance.

Can I exercise my rights by phone?

Yes. You can call [PHONE NUMBER PLACEHOLDER] to exercise certain User Data rights or get help with the suppression process. Our support team is available Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM Pacific Time.

Do you charge for these services?

No. Exercising your privacy rights and using our background report suppression tool are completely free. You do not need to be a subscriber to use these tools.
